I Watched a Young Man's Dream Die... and I Promised Myself It Wouldn't Happen Again

33 seats. One night. A room built for the person everyone leans on but nobody pours into.

Palace of Asia · Inaugural Vision Banquet Live · Sept 19

More than a decade ago, I met a young man named Sheldon.

He was a friend of a friend. And as we got to know each other, I could see something building inside him. He was talking about business. Talking about ideas. Talking about building something real for himself and his family.

You could see the spark.

Then one afternoon, I was sitting with Sheldon and his parents at their dining room table. And that day, for the first time, he opened up to them. He started sharing his plans. Excited. Animated. The way people talk when they actually believe in what they're saying.

And right there, in front of me, they shut him down.

"You can't achieve that." "Stop thinking that way."

I was shocked. Magnetically paralyzed. I couldn't move. I couldn't speak. I sat there and watched a dream collapse in real time and I couldn't do a thing about it.

After that day, Sheldon and I never spoke again.

Maybe he was too embarrassed. I honestly don't know.

What I do know is what happened inside me. Something locked in. A decision I didn't choose so much as discover.

Not On My Watch.

THE ROOM I MADE MYSELF A PROMISE TO BUILD

The day I watched a dream collapse at a dining room table, I made myself a vow.

If I ever had the chance to build a different kind of room, I would build one where dreams were challenged to grow. Not told to shrink.

The Vision Banquet is that room.

Maybe your parents never told you to stop thinking that way. But somewhere along the line, somebody overlooked your dream. Maybe it wasn't even a person. Maybe it was time. Circumstance. The slow drift that happens when you keep building alone.

You've read the books. Attended the seminars. Watched the YouTube videos. And you're still waiting for someday.

That's the real problem. Not a lack of information. Not a lack of talent. The missing piece has always been the room.

THIS IS THE ROOM

On September 19, you'll walk into the Palace of Asia and hear a saxophone before you see anything else.

That's me. Playing live while 33 people who claimed their seats find them.

L.A. Williams playing saxophone

Before the first word is spoken, the room already feels something.

Entrepreneurs. Coaches. Consultants. Creators. People who've been everybody's go-to for years, finally walking into a room built for them.

The room holds 45 people. Twelve seats are intentionally reserved for facilitators, staff, and special guests. That leaves exactly 33 seats available to you. Thirty-three chances to become a Founding Banquetier.

I'll walk the room myself that night. Table by table, I'll introduce you to the people building next to you. Not around you. Next to you.

Two Certified FranklinCovey facilitators will be in the room. The same FranklinCovey behind 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. They’re there to help make sure what begins at the Banquet continues long after the evening ends.

The Bradleys, Certified FranklinCovey Facilitators

The Bradleys. There to help turn the inspiration you feel that night into action you can carry home.

Then comes the signature exercise of the evening. I won't name it here. What I will tell you is this: at some point that night, the room is going to take you somewhere most people are afraid to go. Not somewhere dark. Somewhere clear.

A vantage point on your own life that people never allow themselves to see. The kind of clarity that makes everything you've been putting off feel suddenly, almost uncomfortably, urgent. The math behind this exercise is intentional. So is the distance it asks you to travel. Once you get there, you won't want to come back the same.

By the end of the evening, your vision won't feel like an idea anymore. It'll feel so real you can almost taste it. Almost hear it. Almost reach out and touch it.

WHO BUILT THIS ROOM

I'm L.A. Williams. I lost my eyesight at three years old.

Someone once told me I couldn't edit audio because I couldn't see the waveforms. So I waited my turn. Used nothing but keyboard shortcuts. Outperformed everyone in the room. Then I looked at that engineer and asked, "You still think you need sight to do this?"

That question answers itself now.

Vision was never about what's in front of you. It's about what's inside you.

Every room I've ever been in has that person. The most talented one there. The one everyone leans on. The one nobody pours into.

You're the one everyone calls when they need an answer. Everyone wants a seat next to you.

Nobody saves you one.

I'm saving you one.

WHAT'S ACTUALLY AT STAKE

September 19 is my 45th birthday. I'm spending it in that room with you.

There will be other birthdays. There will never be another first Vision Banquet. There will never be another chance to be a Founding Banquetier.

That title belongs only to the 33 people in this room on September 19. Your seat comes with a signed copy of my new book A Banquet of Vision, dinner at the Palace of Asia, the signature evening exercise, and a room full of people building instead of isolating.

People pay thousands for time with a FranklinCovey facilitator. You're getting an evening with two of them, dinner included, for the price of a t-shirt.

Kristy worked with me for months and told me this afterward: "Thank you for believing in my potential... the lessons I've learned from you have shaped my mindset and inspired me to strive for excellence."

She didn't talk about results first. She talked about who she became.

That's what stops being theoretical when you stop building alone.

HOW TO CLAIM YOUR SEAT

The Vision Banquet is not open to everyone who finds this page. It's for people who've already shown they're serious, not just curious about this mission. That's the whole reason for the merch step.

The real risk isn't missing a banquet.

It's telling yourself someday one more time.

More than a decade ago, I sat at a dining room table and made a vow. This room is how I keep it.
